A collection of some of my long form and magazine reporting.

‘A Book is a Quiet Weapon’ for New York Review of Books. I traveled across Ukraine to interview librarians in Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Izyum about the place for Russian language books in the wake of Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine. Photographs by Alex McBride.

How the West Failed Bosnia, for The Nation. I traveled to Tuzla and Sarajevo to report this story about life in Bosnia nearly 30 years after the end of the wars and the fragile peace deal that has left the country stagnant and ever threatening a return to violence.

In this article for Smithsonian Magazine featured in their October 2020 issue, I traveled to Cologne and Wittenberg in Germany to tell the story of a medieval anti-semitic image, a pensioner’s legal fight against Martin Luther’s church, and the complications within Germany’s memory culture. Photographs by Jasper Bastian. I did this reporting while completing my 2019-2020 Fulbright fellowship based in Berlin, Germany.

Gods, Guns and Country, for Jewish Currents featured in the Summer 2019 issue. I explore the growing weapons and security trade deals between a blossoming relationship between India and Israel. I traveled across India to report this story.

In this article for The Intercept I profile the Iranian-American alt-right activist Jason Jorjani and his rise and fall within the alt-right movement. Photographs by Polina Yamshchikov.

In this cover story for the Indian magazine The Caravan I trace the international far-right connections forming a nexus in the Budapest-based fascist publishing house Arktos, and Arktos’ connections to the Modi government. I also explore the historical Nazi fascination with Hinduism and the occult. This story was nominated for the 2018 Ramnath Goenka prize in International Reporting.
